Gilded Baroque Revival Bed
Drawing from European Baroque and Rococo-influenced decorative furniture, this bed presents an exceptionally ornamental composition centred on carved wood, scrolling foliage and a richly gilded finish.
The headboard is defined by a deeply carved architectural frame, with sweeping acanthus leaves, C-scrolls and layered foliate ornament extending across the crest and down the side supports. The footboard continues the same vocabulary through a highly sculpted lower structure, creating a strong visual relationship between the head and foot of the bed. Raised carved relief gives the gilded surface considerable depth, while the warm metallic finish highlights individual leaves, scrolls and moulded edges.
The upholstered bedding introduces softer ivory and muted brown textiles, creating contrast against the extensive carved ornament. The matching chest beside the bed features figured wood and decorative marquetry, complementing the furniture composition.
