Louis XV-Inspired Carved Cartouche-Back Dining Chair
Drawing from French Louis XV and Rococo decorative seating, this dining chair is defined by an elaborately carved cartouche-shaped back, shaped crest rail and a fully exposed timber frame. The back features layered shell, acanthus and scrolling foliate ornament, with the central upholstered panel contained within a pronounced carved surround. The serpentine seat rail continues the curved profile, while the cabriole legs terminate in shaped feet and incorporate additional carved foliage at the knees. The chair is shown with a painted and gilt finish, with upholstered seat and back panels providing contrast against the carved frame. Its scale and ornamentation suit formal dining rooms, grand reception spaces and interiors drawing from eighteenth-century French decorative furniture.
The frame can be crafted in teak wood, with oak or ash wood also available to suit the desired finish and interior scheme.
