Louis XVI-Inspired Gilded Cane Salon Sofa
Drawing from late 18th-century French Louis XVI seating, this sofa combines a gilded carved timber frame with cane side panels and a rounded upholstered back.
The back follows a shallow oval profile, framed by beaded moulding and bordered by carved timber. Cane panels occupy the outer back and side sections, while the arms terminate in carved scroll details supported by fluted uprights. The lower rail carries continuous carved moulding, with square corner blocks and four tapered, fluted legs incorporating turned collars and small ornamental feet.
The upholstery is finished in red velvet across the seat and central back, with closely spaced decorative nailheads defining the perimeter. The velvet provides a continuous textile surface against the open cane and gilded frame.
Suitable for French classical salons, drawing rooms, reception spaces and formal residential interiors.
