Louis XV Rococo-Inspired Marquetry Commode

Drawing from Louis XV-period French decorative furniture and Rococo cabinetmaking, this commode combines a shaped case with elaborate gilt-bronze mounts and figured wood marquetry. The rectangular marble top is framed by a pierced and foliate gilt-bronze edge, while the façade is arranged with two smaller upper drawers and a broad lower section enriched with diagonal veneer work.

The front is defined by asymmetrical Rocaille scrolls, floral garlands, shells and foliate mounts, centred by a sculpted classical figure surrounded by scrolling foliage. Gilt-bronze corner mounts extend into the cabriole legs, which terminate in pronounced scroll feet. The restrained geometric veneer provides contrast to the extensive ormolu ornament.

The piece suits formal drawing rooms, dining rooms, galleries and classical interiors.

The frame can be crafted in teak wood, with oak or ash wood also available to suit the desired finish and interior scheme.

Made to order, with upholstery and finish selected for each commission.
