Drawing from Louis XV and Rococo-influenced French decorative furniture, this rectangular dining table features a broad top, shaped apron and extensively curved cabriole legs. The apron is enriched with scrolling foliate carving, shell-like ornament and carved corner details, while the legs taper into curved feet with matching decorative accents. The pale painted finish with restrained gilded detailing emphasizes the flowing contours and carved relief.
The accompanying chair features a shaped open back with central carved ornament, curved front legs and a padded seat, continuing the formal vocabulary of the table. The combination of asymmetrical curves, carved ornament and pale-and-gold finish reflects the lighter, more fluid character associated with Rococo furniture.
