Drawing from French Renaissance Revival and historicist European seating furniture, this armchair is defined by an elaborately carved back, turned supports and a woven cane seat. The high rectangular back incorporates a central pierced panel with scrolling foliage and stylized floral ornament, framed by turned uprights and a shaped crest rail. The arms extend from carved and turned supports, while the seat rail carries a repeating carved border around the woven cane panel. Four turned legs are connected by a boxed stretcher system with turned joints, providing a strong architectural base and visual continuity with the upper frame. The dark stained finish emphasizes the depth of the carving, turned components and openwork back.
