Louis XVI-Inspired Carved Back Sofa
Drawing from late 18th-century French Louis XVI seating, this sofa uses a symmetrical upholstered structure framed by carved timber, with a shaped crest rail, enclosed back panel and individually defined arm supports.
The crest rail features a central circular medallion surrounded by carved laurel foliage, set within a moulded rectangular frame. The upper corners transition into short raised terminals, while the arms use padded upholstered rests over carved uprights with vertical fluting and botanical carving. The front legs are tapered and fluted, incorporating turned collars and ring mouldings that continue the vertical rhythm of the frame.
The upholstery uses a plain cream textile with piped edges defining the seat, back and arm cushions. The restrained textile allows the carved timber, moulded borders and botanical ornament to remain clearly visible.
Suitable for French Neoclassical interiors, formal reception rooms, libraries and classical residential settings.
