French Empire Cane Méridienne
Drawing from early 19th-century French Empire seating, this piece uses a long, low rectangular seat with an exposed carved timber structure and woven cane panels.
The arm structure rises continuously from the seat and terminates in outward-facing volute scrolls. Multiple parallel timber rails follow the arm profile, while square junction blocks are fitted with carved rosette motifs. The supports are turned and fluted, with stacked ring mouldings and tapering profiles characteristic of period furniture vocabulary.
Cane is applied across the seat and inner arm panels in a regular woven grid, leaving the timber framework exposed. The dark stained timber separates the structural members from the lighter cane surfaces and makes the carved elements clearly legible.
The form is appropriate for period-inspired French interiors, libraries, galleries and formal seating arrangements where an Empire-period furniture reference is required.
